Kroll Ontrack offers dynamic courses to keep corporations, law firms and government entities on the leading edge of the evolution of law and technology. Kroll Ontrack's E-Discovery Certification Course is the most highly-acclaimed program for legal and technical professionals seeking to expand their e-discovery and computer forensics knowledge. In response to new e-discovery developments and feedback from our attendees, Kroll Ontrack has redesigned its 2009 course curriculum. This new course offers several breakout sessions designed to appeal to beginner, intermediate and advanced learners, with both legal and IT backgrounds.

This course was developed for legal and technical professionals of all levels including in-house counsel, law firm attorneys, litigation support professionals, paralegals, IT staff, and government officials. Course Format

The two-day course is held at Kroll Ontrack's corporate headquarters near Minneapolis, Minnesota and is comprised of large and small group break-out sessions. Attendees will have the flexibility to choose either basic or advanced level curriculum. This format allows course participants the flexibility to attend the classes that most interest them, encourages more interaction between course participants and offers better access to presenters’ knowledge and expertise. Kroll Ontrack will no longer be holding the basic or advanced level individual courses with this new course format.

This presentation will discuss how information records managers, in-house counsel, IT professionals, law firm attorneys and litigation support teams can coordinate efforts to maximize efficiency and achieve the best results when preserving and collecting electronic information. Discussions will also involve the role of various ESI archiving, retention and storage tools.

The law of electronic discovery is advancing and expanding at an incredible rate, conferring strategic advantages upon litigation teams who are up to speed. This session is designed for lawyers who desire briefing on new legal rules, cases and issues that are transforming the electronic discovery industry.

Option B: Cost Containment: Stretching E- Discovery Dollars
ESI discovery can be unnecessarily costly if not well-managed. Addressing cost containment is one area where a focused effort will pay off for your client. Topics covered during this session will include:
  • How is cost determined and what are the cost components in e-discovery?
  • How does one create realistic cost estimates?

11:15 am - 12:30 pm Searching, Sorting and Sifting: Needles in the Electronic Haystack
Electronic search tools can be employed at various phases of the e- discovery process to collect, sort, sift and prioritize data sets. This presentation will discuss various search considerations and techniques such as:
  • Reducing the data set through pre-review filtering and processing;
  • Searching and sorting post-processing during review;
  • Using conceptual search and topic grouping technologies; and
  • Running searches on servers and databases.

1:30 - 2:45 pm Demystifying Metadata
Metadata can be a valuable litigation and internal investigation tool, yet like other forms of ESI, it implicates a variety of new concerns. This session will expose common metadata myths and reveal various approaches for properly handling metadata. Topics to be discussed include:
  • Recent case law where the preservation and production of metadata is at issue;
  • Collecting metadata from various forms of ESI;
  • Including metadata in a document review and avoiding metadata production
    issues; and
  • Metadata scrubbing and other spoliation considerations.

The success of your litigation may rely heavily on the success of your document review project. The steps you take before, during and after your review can directly impact your case. In this presentation, you will learn the steps and considerations for getting your project off the

Option B: Utilizing Your Review Tool
The success of a case rests on the quality of evidence presented. A good review tool will allow your review team to find and highlight those documents that are crucial to your case. This presentation will offer tried and true tips and techniques in getting the most out of your review tool.

Option B: Debunking the Multilingual Mystery
With modern technology, it is almost as easy to conduct business across continents as it is across the street. Additional topics for discussion during this session include:
