Mark Williams leads the strategic vision of Kroll Ontrack and is accountable for advancing and growing the company’s business lines through continued investment in technology innovation and service excellence. Williams is an innovator in the legal industry, drawing on his experience as both a lawyer and founder of a legal outsourcing company that challenged traditional models for the delivery of legal services. With more than 20 years of experience, Williams has a strong track record as a strategic business partner, lawyer, and senior executive, having navigated corporate business environments around the globe.
Formerly, Williams was a managing director with Huron Legal, where he led the $200 million Discovery Group and was instrumental in integrating business practices to enhance capabilities and improve synergies across business units. Before joining Huron, Williams was a senior vice president with Axiom Global, where he led the Managed Discovery Business with operations in the United States, Belfast and India. Williams was previously a corporate and finance partner with DLA Piper for almost 17 years where he was a key leader in the firm’s international expansion into Asia and the Middle East; he spent 4 years in China and served as managing partner in Beijing, and opened the firm’s office in Doha, Qatar.
Williams holds a JD from Columbia University School of Law, an MBA from the University of Maryland/Beijing University for International Business & Economics, a MSc in International Relations from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Illinois. He earned a Project Management Certification from DePaul University and completed the DLA Piper Harvard Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.
Gregory A. Olson
Senior Vice President, Worldwide Data Recovery and Software
Senior Vice President Greg Olson provides executive and strategic leadership for the global Data Recovery and Software business line. In his current role, Olson leads the strategic and tactical evolution of the world-class data recovery services and enterprise software solutions.
Olson joined the company in 1990 and has served in various executive leadership roles across operations, product line management and software development organizations. Olson is a globally recognized expert in the area of data recovery and an experienced executive with extensive operational, financial and technical knowledge with specialized expertise in the areas of data recovery, computer forensics, electronic discovery and software development processes.
Olson graduated cum laude from St. Cloud State University in Minn. with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Senior Vice President, Consulting, Client Services and Operations
Cathleen Peterson is senior vice president of Kroll Ontrack Consulting, Client Services and Operations. In her role, Peterson is responsible for the strategy, growth and delivery of the client experience, and overseeing the day-today functions of client services and operations, as well as a full range of consulting services, including collection services, ESI consulting and review services.
Prior to joining Kroll Ontrack, Peterson was of counsel and the legal director of discovery analytics and review services for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where she consulted with clients and case teams on technology and all aspects of ediscovery, led the development of the firm's search analytics team and expanded discovery service offerings leveraging advanced technologies. Included in her many accomplishments, she designed, built and grew one of largest and most successful document review centers on the East Coast, deploying kCura's Relativity platform. Before joining Orrick, Peterson served as Counsel at WilmerHale, with an emphasis on large-scale SEC inquiries, complex litigation and internal investigations.
Peterson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Utah and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania.
Senior Vice President, Legal Technology Sales
As senior vice president of sales for Kroll Ontrack, Craig Carpenter holds revenue responsibility for the Legal Technologies business line. He oversees a diverse team of highly competent consultants who help global clients to manage data intelligently and to enable the efficient resolution of complex legal and governance matters. He has repeatedly established himself as a thought leader and innovator in the legal technology and ediscovery industries.
Prior to joining Kroll Ontrack, Carpenter held senior leadership roles at several of the fastest-growing companies in the legal technology and ediscovery industries. Most recently, Carpenter served as the president and chief operating officer of the security division of a well-known cyber security, forensics and ediscovery provider. In this role, he offered clients a comprehensive approach to advanced threat defense and cyber intelligence, leading to the unit’s successful sale in 2015. Earlier in his career, as the vice president of marketing and business development for a fast-growing global ediscovery provider, Carpenter provided strategic advice to top law firms and multi-national corporations. He consistently helped clients to adopt and implement advanced technologies that streamlined legal discovery processes, while reducing litigation-related costs and expenses.
Carpenter began his career as a practicing attorney. He earned both his Juris Doctor and MBA from Santa Clara University and completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA.
Vice President of Marketing
As vice president of marketing, Steve Schley has oversight responsibility for corporate marketing strategy, brand execution and thought leadership programs. He holds deep experience with B2B software and services companies managing sales and marketing teams and transforming businesses through innovative go-to-market strategies.
Previous to Kroll Ontrack, Schley worked nearly ten years with CPA Global, most recently as vice president responsible for strategic planning and revenue growth in their legal services division. He is credited with developing the company’s first channel partner program, establishing a network of product/service partners, consultants and resellers. Prior to CPA Global, Schley was president of a Minneapolis-based software firm that provided accounting and productivity tools to the accounting and legal industries.
Schley received his MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business, followed by Executive Leadership Education from Harvard Business School. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California in Entrepreneurship and Business.
Vice President, Finance
Shawn Abbas leads the organization's finance group and is responsible for financial analysis/reporting, budgeting and forecasting across all business lines. A globally experienced financial executive with broad expertise, Abbas brings deep proficiency to Kroll Ontrack in organizational strategic planning and implementation, process improvements, international business, accounting, auditing and financial management, among others.
Previously, Abbas held various management positions at Kroll Ontrack and Larson Allen.
Abbas earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Vice President, Global Human Resources
As vice president of global human resources, JeanAnn Trombley brings over 25 years of human resources expertise – including leadership with in the data and technology sector – to Kroll Ontrack. She works with leaders to advance strategic business goals through process improvements while also fostering a dynamic, supportive and engaging culture for employees.
Previously, Trombley was senior vice president for CSM Corporation, a private organization with a multibillion-dollar real estate portfolio. Prior to joining CSM, she was the vice president of Human Resources at WuXi AppTec, where she played a key role in optimizing organizational design and structure for teams across the U.S., Europe and Asia to help ensure the organization was positioned in a way that was scalable for growth and could support new service platforms. Trombley also spent eight years with Carlson Wagonlit Travel where she served as part of a core M&A team to provide leadership for two acquisitions from due diligence through the successful integration 1,000 and 6,000 employees, respectively. She also worked with Thomson Reuters for three years, serving as the HR leader for a technology staff of 1,800 employees in two primary U.S. locations.
In addition to completing the Executive HR Leadership program at the University of Michigan, Trombley earned her MBA in Human Resources Management at the University of St. Thomas (Minneapolis) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Marketing at Minnesota State University.
