Favorite Project: A multinational company experienced the simultaneous crashing of seven e-mail servers in key locations around the world. This brought down the company’s e-mail system and caused significant disruption to its business, as well as great expense to investigate the issue and restore the system to full functionality. Through computer forensics, a logic bomb that erased hundreds of system files through an automated process was found on each affected server, which eventually resulted in the system crash. Also using computer forensics, previously deleted draft versions of the logic bomb were located and recovered from an administrator’s workstation. The matter was referred to law enforcement officials, who eventually arrested and prosecuted the system administrator.
