Kroll Ontrack launches Ontrack® Powercontrols™ version 5.0
Mailbox recovery tool provides new live exchange server functionality, search reports and security features to help organizations comply with internal policies
Minneapolis – Jan. 15, 2008 – Kroll Ontrack®, a leading provider of data recovery and legal technologies products and services , today announced the availability of Ontrack® PowerControls™ 5.0 , the newest version of the company’s award-winning mailbox recovery tool. Designed to perform fast and easy e-mail search and Exchange server recovery directly from Microsoft® Exchange Server backups , Ontrack PowerControls 5.0 further simplifies the restoration process while maintaining internal security policies.
IT professionals familiar with Ontrack PowerControls will find the new version delivers the same e-mail recovery power and precision, but now can:
- Set a live Exchange Server as a “target” for searching, moving, copying, exporting or deleting mailbox items.
- Control Ontrack PowerControls user access via new Administrative Services to mirror their organization’s internal IT security policies.
- Track Ontrack PowerControls and Ontrack PowerControls Extract Wizard user activity via new Administrative Services to store a centralized audit log of operations performed.
- Create new mailboxes on a target Exchange server manually or as part of copy-out process.
- Generate reports showing results from each search performed.
- Export single mailboxes or an entire EDB store to PST files.
“Because Exchange data is often deemed sensitive, organizations need a tool that not only simplifies e-mail management, but is mindful of who has access to email data and how it can be manipulated,” said Jim Reinert, vice president of data recovery and software products at Kroll Ontrack. “Version 5.0 offers the same powerful functionality that has been helping organizations comply with information-oriented and records retention regulations since the product’s inception , but now enables users to more precisely control product usage and adhere to their own internal policies more closely when utilizing the tool.”
“While Ontrack PowerControls 5.0 is more powerful than ever before; it is still very configurable and easy-to-use,” added Reinert. “For example, companies who set up the Ontrack PowerControls 5.0 Administrative Services can choose to enable either, both, or none of the Activity Auditing and Permissions Access Control features.”
Ontrack PowerControls, which earned “Verified for Microsoft Windows XP” status through independent testing, is used by IT professionals to quickly and easily search, copy and restore message-level or individual mailbox items from any previous full backup, un-mounted databases (.edb) and Information Store files. Requiring no changes to the existing Exchange server or backup architecture, Ontrack PowerControls slashes restore time, eliminates brick-level back-ups, minimizes the time it takes to locate all emails matching specific criteria using advanced searching capabilities, and eliminates the need for an Exchange recovery server. Ontrack PowerControls supports Microsoft® Exchange Server 5.5, 2000, 2003 or 2007.
Different editions of Ontrack PowerControls 5.0 are available with pricing beginning at $950 for 100 mailboxes by calling Kroll Ontrack at 1-800-872-2599 or going online to www.ontrackpowercontrols.com.
