Ontrack adds innovative new esupport capabilities to its RapidRecall™ automated backup solution

RapidRecall™ 5.0 includes powerful new tools for automatically protecting user data while improving employee productivity and IT management

ONTRACK Data International Inc. (NASDAQ: ONDI), a leading provider of data availability software and service solutions, today announced the availability of RapidRecall™ 5.0, an Internet-based eSupport system that provides users constant access to their critical data by automatically and efficiently backing up all user data stored on a PC. This latest version extends beyond the automated PC backup and maintenance solutions found in the original RapidRecall by adding four optional automated support tools - Remote Assist, Audit, iRoam and Ontrack SystemSuite™. The new tools enable IT departments to confidently perform system audits and remote diagnostics, automate PC maintenance, provide data accessibility and empower end users to solve their own PC problems. Most importantly, these tools enhance RapidRecall's existing Backup and Heal support functions by allowing IT companies to increase employee productivity while decreasing support costs.

“Internet-based tools and services -- typically referred to as eSupport systems -- are becoming increasingly popular with IT departments, but many of these systems fail to include protection of all user data before deployment, which in turn can impact data integrity, ” said Jim Reinert, director of worldwide software for Ontrack. “ The introduction of RapidRecall 5.0 eliminates this risk by automatically backing up all user data first, then allowing the IT staff to confidently deploy eSupport services. RapidRecall 5.0 works by automatically storing an archived copy of every user's computer on a designated server using the RapidRecall client program. The client synchronizes each user's PC efficiently and securely over any IP network. All distributed data is archived and protected on the centralized RapidRecall server, allowing users to immediately retrieve current or previous versions of a data file. Because an electronic “snapshot” of the computer is taken every day, the RapidRecall tools can be used to quickly and easily rectify PC problems, restoring the computer to its previously working state. New tools found in RapidRecall 5.0 include:
  • Remote Assist — Enables the IT staff to take full control of any PC on the RapidRecall system. Staff members can also communicate with users without using the telephone, remotely repair a user's PC and perform a variety of diagnostic functions through Voice over IP connections.
  • Audit — Automatically tracks hardware and software, from complete asset data to historical changes, on every PC on the network, providing the IT department with full accountability.
  • iRoam — Allows users to retrieve files via any PC Web browser without requiring client software to be installed on the PC's system.
  • Ontrack SystemSuite — Empowers end users and/or IT staff to diagnose, fix and maintain their own PCs through a variety of PC maintenance tools, including disk cleanup and system registry optimization.
