Ontrack receives pentagon’s highest honor for its security programMinneapolis, Minn. (July 1, 1998) – Ontrack Data International, Inc., the worldwide leader in data recovery, announced today that it has again received the U.S. Department of Defense’s prestigious James S. Cogswell Award for Industrial Security. Ontrack®, which first received the award in 1995, has again been recognized for sustained outstanding achievement in the implementation of the Department of Defense’s Industrial Security Program.
Ontrack developed strict procedures to meet the demands of the Department of Defense for appropriate levels of security related to recovering sensitive government data. The award-winning security these methods provide has helped more than just Department of Defense customers. The processes have been implemented for a broad mix of organizations, that also includes all areas of government and private organizations facing data loss. These processes have been especially important for government agencies and lawyers in civil cases who use Ontrack’s rapidly growing Computer Evidence Services division to prove computer related fraud and data tampering in legal proceedings.
“We take our security clearance very seriously as the only data recovery provider with the ability to handle sensitive government data for the defense department. We take great pride in the all work we do for government agencies and companies with sensitive data,” said Mike Rogers, chairman and CEO of Ontrack. “All our customers receive better security and confidentiality because of the processes we deliver to the Federal government.” Only 56 Cogswell Awards, based on criteria very similar to the Malcom Baldridge awards, were presented to the more than 11,800 eligible cleared defense contractors. The award is given annually, though companies are eligible only after meeting and maintaining specific selection criteria for a required three-year period. Achieving the distinction requires a significant team effort by management, work force and security officer. The only data recovery company to be distinguished with the honor, Ontrack has won the award every time the company has been eligible.“Winning this award for the second time is a true testament to the dedication and high level of quality and customer satisfaction our team of professionals maintain,” said Rogers. “Being recognized by the Department of Defense reflects the commitment to excellence Ontrack adheres to and its continuing leadership in the data recovery industry.”
The Cogswell Award recognizes outstanding industry participation in the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) and symbolizes the joint government-industry commitment to security through safe practices, procedures and awareness.
The award was established in 1966 as the “Industrial Security Award for Excellence.” It was later renamed to honor Cogswell, a United States Air Force Colonel and the first Chief of the Office of Industrial Security, who established many of the basic principles in place within the present-day Industrial Security Program.
