Ontrack has announced immediate availability of “do-it-yourself” data recovery software

ONTRACK Data International, Inc. (NASDAQ: ONDI), the world leader in data recovery services, today announced the availability of Tiramisu - a line of do-it-yourself data recovery software designed for use by PC technicians and computer enthusiasts seeking a same-day solution for certain data loss situations.
The Tiramisu software line is specifically designed to let users evaluate the problem and see a list of recoverable files before purchasing the software. In addition to this Free Evaluation version, three other versions of Tiramisu are available to meet users needs, including: Tiramisu-Lite, Full Recovery and Tiramisu Bundles. “With prices starting at $49 for the Tiramisu-Lite version, Ontrack is able to offer an economical solution to low-end data loss situations and reach a broader base of customers,” said Jim Reinert, Ontrack director, product marketing.
“Tiramisu is a key component in the Ontrack data recovery solutions strategy,” said Mike Rogers, Ontrack chief executive officer. “We are working toward providing data recovery solutions that span every conceivable data loss situation, and Tiramisu fills an important need for technically savvy customers preferring a do-it-yourself solution.”
When a suspected data loss or hard drive failure occurs, the user can download Tiramisu from the Ontrack Web site (www.ontrack.com) and copy it to a DOS-boot diskette. The user then reboots the computer with the diskette and clicks the “recover” button to begin hard drive analysis. At this point, the user can see exactly which files are recoverable and select the files desired for recovery, which are then copied to a safe location. This completes the data recovery and allows the customer to make any necessary repairs to the original system.
Unlike some recovery utilities, which put data at risk by attempting to repair and rewrite the corruptions on the original drive, Tiramisu never writes on the original drive and its evaluations are non-invasive.
An additional benefit of the Tiramisu product line is the elimination of the need to secure “key codes” in order to recover files. Once the software is downloaded, it is ready for immediate use - no need for any special codes or keys to unlock capabilities. “As the world leader in data recovery solutions for more than eleven years, Ontrack understands the importance of same day, ‘do-it-yourself' data recovery solutions,” Reinert said.
The Tiramisu product line consists of five products, each developed to conduct recovery within a different operating system. Supported platforms include: DOS/WIN FAT 16; Windows 95/98-FAT32; Windows NT; Novell NetWare; and Iomega Zip drives. Available direct from Ontrack or on the Ontrack Web site, Tiramisu offers a risk-free data recovery option accessible seven days a week, 24-hours a day without the assistance of an engineer. Detailed pricing can be found on the World Wide Web at: www.ontrack.com/tiramisu.
