Ontrack improves “do-it-yourself” data recovery with new version of EasyRecovery SoftwareONTRACK Data International, Inc. (NASDAQ: ONDI), a leading provider of data availability software and service solutions, today announced upgrades to its popular EasyRecovery™ “do-it-yourself” data recovery software to address customer and market demands for an easier and more powerful product. Designed for PC technicians and computer enthusiasts seeking same-day data recovery solutions, EasyRecovery version 5.0 features a new graphical user interface and an enhanced recovery engine that simplifies and accelerates the data recovery process.
“EasyRecovery version 5.0 provides greater functionality, allowing users to perform their own data recovery in the fastest and most efficient manner possible,” said Jim Reinert, Ontrack director of worldwide software products. “The application's new graphical user interface clearly guides users through the steps necessary to recover data, and the enhanced recovery engine applies advanced algorithms that quickly assess the system, recover files and copy them to a new location.”
Two editions of EasyRecovery version 5.0 are available to meet users' needs: Personal and Professional. The Personal Edition retails for $89 and targets users needing to recover data from a single PC with one operating system. The Professional Edition retails for $489 and targets small businesses and computer repair technicians needing to recover data from multiple computers supporting multiple operating systems. The Professional Edition also features advanced tuning options that provide the user with greater control during the data recovery process and help ensure a more successful recovery.
Similar to the previous version of EasyRecovery, the latest version features Trial Editions that are designed to let users evaluate their data loss situation, see a complete list of recoverable files and recover up to five files before purchasing the software.
When a suspected data loss or hard drive failure occurs, users can download EasyRecovery version 5.0 from the Ontrack Web site (www.ontrack.com). Using a simple setup program, EasyRecovery operates directly from Windows or from an emergency boot diskette and does not need to be preinstalled prior to data loss. In either mode, the user simply chooses the “recover” option to begin hard drive analysis. EasyRecovery version 5.0 shows the user exactly which files are recoverable, allows the user to select files desired for recovery and copies the selected files to a safe location. When the data recovery is complete, the user can make any necessary repairs to the original system.
“EasyRecovery version 5.0 makes a user's data protection strategy more complete with its ability to recover data lost to even the most destructive computer viruses like the LoveBug,” Reinert said. “In addition, the program can recover deleted files even if the user emptied the Recycle Bin or reformatted the hard drive.”
Unlike some recovery utilities, which put data at risk by attempting to repair and rewrite the corruptions on the original drive, EasyRecovery version 5.0 never writes on the original partition and its evaluations are non-destructive.
EasyRecovery version 5.0 Professional Edition supports Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000 operating systems using FAT, FAT32 and NTFS partitions. The Personal Edition supports Win 95 and 98 using FAT or FAT32 partitions.
