Ontrack offers enhanced and expanded internet support for its Remote Data Recovery™ services(COMDEX/MICROSOFT PAVILLION) ONTRACK Data International Inc., (NASDAQ: ONDI), a leading provider of data availability software and service solutions, today announced the enhanced and expanded support of its Remote Data Recovery™ service over the Internet. This new functionality allows computer users to recover from data loss situations quickly, securely and cost-effectively over the Internet. “Previously, users were required to have their system bootable to Windows to take advantage of Internet-based Remote Data Recovery,” said Greg Olson, director, worldwide data recovery services for Ontrack. “We recognized the need to provide the advantage of Internet service to people with systems that were damaged to the point of not being bootable. Therefore, we enhanced our Internet support for our Remote Data Recovery service, enabling users to recover their mission-critical data quickly, accurately and cost-effectively, regardless of whether their system will boot or not. This technology enhancement additionally adds support for Internet-based RDR for Linux and Novell NetWare users.”
Remote Data Recovery is an exclusive patented service that enables Ontrack engineers to quickly recover a company's data via the Internet or modem without the hassle of removing the hard drive from the desktop, laptop or server. Within 60-90 minutes of being notified of a data loss, Ontrack engineers can identify the problem and give users an estimated cost to retrieve the missing data. Data is then recovered within a matter of hours, while a typical in-lab data recovery can take several days. All information transferred over the Internet is encrypted, which provides security to the user.
“The degree of guidance, patience and professionalism the Ontrack engineer showed during my data loss was amazing. I had lost key information and an entire proposal in progress,” said Susan Lerman, director, marketing and business development for TRW Inc., and recent customer of Ontrack. “I was fortunate our Help Desk knew about Ontrack when I called them about my lost data. I would strongly recommend all computer users think ahead and prepare themselves because you never know when a data loss may strike you.”
Ontrack currently provides Remote Data Recovery service for DOS, Windows 3.x, 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, Linux, Sun Solaris and Novell NetWare. Remote Data Recovery service is available from Ontrack labs around the world.
